Cole Hardware Partners With SFPUC

The SFPUC and Cole Hardware are pleased to announce a partnership to provide rain barrels to San Francisco residents at reduced prices starting in October.

Rainwater harvesting is the practice of collecting and using rainwater that runs off of roofs and other hard surfaces. It is an age-old technology that is growing in popularity as people look for ways to use water resources more wisely. When you install a rain barrel or cistern to harvest rainwater at home, you are helping to maintain the health and beauty of San Francisco’s urban watershed in many ways.

By harvesting rainwater, you:
  • reduce your use of potable water (water safe to drink) used for non-potable usage applications like gardening
  • reduce the energy and chemicals needed to treat stormwater in San Francisco’s combined sewer system, and ...
  • minimize flooding and combined sewer discharges by decreasing the volume of stormwater entering the sewer system.
Visit the Big Blue Bucket Eco-Fair for more information and stay tuned for special priced rain barrels.
The SFPUC will be kicking off its Rainwater Harvesting Program at the Big Blue Bucket Eco-Fair on October 11. The fair will be held from 10 am to 2 pm at the Southeast Treatment Plant at Jerrold Avenue and Phelps Street.

For more information on the fair, visit: www.bigbluebucket.org, or to learn more about rainwater harvesting, explore the SFPUC Stormwater Program website at: http://stormwater.sfwater.org.
