Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is a month-long celebration that brings together Spanish-speaking people of all nationalities. It officially begins September 15th on the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua; followed by Mexico and Chile on the 16th and 18th, respectively.
Not just a great time to honor our personal heritage, Hispanic Heritage Month is also a great time to honor the many contributions that Hispanics have made to this country’s culture. Hispanics have made a huge impact in many different fields. For example, Oscar Hijuelos, born to Cuban immigrants, was the first Hispanic to win the Pulitzer Prize for his fiction book, The Mambo

Kings. Or Cesar Chavez, an unwavering social activist and Mexican American, who won dignity, fair wages, and better working conditions for migrant farm workers without resorting to violence.
Cultural contributions don’t have to be huge accomplishments, though. Our heritage is passed on little by little, generation by generation, through the celebrations, traditions and recipes of everyday life. For instance, my own grandmother’s delicious Hot Chocolate Oatmeal Drink, which I would like to Hot Chocolate share with all of you:
