 Garden for the Environment - March Classes


Garden for the Environment will offer the following classes in March 2008. All classes will be offered at Garden for the Environment, a half-acre organic demonstration garden in San Francisco on 7th Avenue at Lawton Street. Since its founding in 1990, the garden has operated as a demonstration site for small-scale urban ecological food production, organic gardening, compost education and low water-use landscaping.

  • URBAN COMPOSTING
    SATURDAY, MARCH 1ST | 10AM - 12NOON

    Winter can be a great time to start a new compost pile or to jump start one that just isn’t breaking down. Join Garden For the Environment for a fun, hands-on workshop teaching basic methods of both backyard and worm composting! Compost is a rich soil amendment that will greatly benefit your garden plants, houseplants, and the environment, by diverting compostable material from the landfill. Learn how to turn those food scraps or fallen leaves into “gardeners black gold”. Rot on!

  • NATURAL PEST CONTROL
    SATURDAY, MARCH 8TH | 10AM - 1PM

    Got Pests? We'll cover the basics of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in this workshop, focusing on least toxic organic controls to deal with landscape pests and diseases. This workshop is part of our Resource Efficient Landscaping Education Program. FREE!

  • ORGANIC FRUIT TREE CARE; TRAINING THE YOUNG & THE OLD
    SATURDAY, MARCH 15TH | 10AM - 12NOON

    Join GFE and Orchard Keepers, organic tree experts, for this extensive workshop covering organic fruit tree care for both young and mature fruit trees. This hands-on workshop will cover apples, pears and plumbs (both Stone fruits and Pome fruits). $15; No one turned away for lack of funds. Pre-registration required.
