Environmentally friendly Orange Guard has the very pleasant fragrance of fresh oranges and may be used both indoors and outdoors.
Orange Guard is water based and all ingredients are classified by the FDA as "food grade" -- you can use it around food with absolute confidence of its safety. It presents no health hazards to humans or pets from ingestion, inhalation or skin contact (unless you have a citrus allergy). If you get it in your eyes, it may cause mild irritation -- just rinse with water.
The active ingredient in Orange Guard is d-Limonene -- steam distilled orange peel oil. D-Limonene dissolves the protective coating on the insects' exoskeletons, and plugs up their respiratory spiracles. The EPA classifies d-Limonene as a broad range insecticide.
Research shows Orange Guard is highly effective. Applied directly to Argentine ants (those tiny ants that invade houses in droves) under laboratory conditions, Orange Guard killed 100% of the ant population after 15 minutes. When researchers applied Orange Guard to cat fleas, 95.4% of the fleas were dead after 15 minutes, and 100% were dead after an hour.
A field study conducted in public housing in Texas found that Orange Guard outperformed Dursban (the toxic component in Raid) in killing German cockroaches. Application of Orange Guard resulted in a 70.67% reduction of cockroaches after 7 days (compared to Dursban's 55.97% reduction), and an 85.28% reduction after 27 days (compared to Dursban's 72% reduction).
To apply Orange Guard, simply saturate the area until visibly wet -- the active ingredient keeps killing and repelling for weeks. Spray in kitchens, pantries and under cabinets and appliances -- anywhere insects hide. Wait three minutes and then wipe up. Insects not in direct contact with the product will avoid the sprayed area. Apply to pet bedding to control fleas. Spray the perimeter of your home generously to create a protective barrier against insects. Spray anywhere insects can enter -- doorways, window frames and cracks. Saturate insect trails or nests. Spray garbage cans, manure piles or any infested areas until visibly wet. (This is a broad-range insecticide. Direct it at your target population of insects. Do not point it at ladybugs and other beneficial insects and do not apply directly to water.)
